Teddy and Chloe’s parents, Jen and Rick, write: Teddy and Chloe are littermates and true brother and sister. When they are home they can be found chasing each other around the house and though we have 2 of every toy they always want the toy the other one is playing with. When they are not racing around, Chloe can be found sleeping on someone’s lap while they are working at the computer and Teddy can be found sleeping in a nice sunny spot. These sweet pups turned one on November 9^th 2009. Since the day we brought them home their curiosity, playfulness, and energy have brought joy and happiness to our household and to everyone they meet. Everywhere we take them they are the life of the party! They love to meet new people and dogs. Teddy and Chloe would like to thank all of the people on the street who stop to show them affection, they love it. They are our Furbaby’s and we want everyone to know how much we love them

Ryder – March ‘10

Ryder’s Mom Samantha writes: “This smiling little man is Ryder. His dad and I adopted him from a pet rescue center in Gainesville about a year ago and he celebrated his first birthday October 10th. He is very mellow and well-behaved for his age and loves to play fetch and play with his many stuffed animals. He has such a great personality and loves meeting new dogs and people. He recently moved to South Tampa and I hope he is considered for the Pet of the Month!

Blondie’s Mom Mary writes: “I would like to nominate my faithful companion of 13 ½ years… Blondie! She has stuck by me through thick and thin and across the state from West Palm Beach to Tampa. Blondie loves to be the center of attention and will do anything to get it!!! She loves to go to the park, run with the other dogs and play in the mud! Marley – January ‘10

Hi! My name is Marley! I am a six year old Boston Terrier,

who still looks and acts like a baby! I live on Davis

Islands, with my mama’s and other Boston, Kelsey! I love

to fl oat on the raft and swim in the pool, occasionally with

my goggles, as you see here! My hobbies include chasing

lizards, barking at the squirrels from the front window, going

to the dog park, riding around in the Jeep, and watching

the other dogs on my big screen TV! I love my house, and I

love my life! I have it made!

Zeke – November ‘09

Zeke, short for Zekeapotomus, is a 10 month old Catahoula Leopard Dog who was born deaf and blind as a result of backyard breeding. At 6 months, after the last “good” puppy went to a home, the breeder decided that Zeke was too much of an inconvenience and took him to the vet to be put down. One of the employees there got the breeder to turn Zeke over to her and she posted Zeke on the rescue board of Catahoula Rescue Inc. I generally try not to open the postings unless they are asking for help with transport but, wanting to know what an “unscrupulous backyard breeder” was about, I looked. I’ll be honest, I’m a sucker for special needs dogs and I LOVE the patchwork markings on some houlas. I knew that no one else was going to want a deaf AND blind Catahoula puppy-they’re a lot of work when they have all senses-so I e-mailed the coordinator that I work with in the rescue and told her I wanted him; whether to foster or keep, I had to have him. Because of his disabilities, she said if I took him in, it was for good. We talked for about an hour or more about worst case scenarios that could happen with him and other dogs, with my dogs, with people, etc. Oddly, it just made me want him more! I took my kids out to meet Zeke on Memorial Day and that Friday he came home with me.

Dante’s Mom Amy writes: “I would like to nominate my husband’s dog. His name is Dante. He is a beautiful 6 year old golden retriever. He is loyal to all of our family and he just learned to swim on Davis Islands. But his favorite thing to do is retrieve tennis balls. His big eyes and licks just confirm how much he loves us. Dante is a great dog. Thanks for considering him for the Pet of the Month.”

: Rico Pet of the Month Sept 09

Rico’s Mom Christine writes “Rico came to our family when we least expected it. Our 17 year old Cocker Spaniel, Brownie passed away in June of 2006 and my family couldn’t imagine going through another loss with a pet. However, that all changed when my family and I went to visit relatives in Puerto Rico. The number of strays and abandoned pets in Puerto Rico unfortunately, has been growing at an uncontrollable rate. My family and I witnessed this first hand when a stray had a litter of puppies on my Aunt’s property.

Knowing the probable fate of these beautiful and healthy 6 mixed puppies, friends and family came to action by unofficially adopting the puppies and their mother. I couldn’t leave the Island without becoming part of the effort and bringing one back to our home in Wesley Chapel. Rico (named after the Island) has now been a member of the family for almost 6 months. He has brought an immense amount of energy, happiness and laughter to our home. Part Jack Russell Terrier, part Chihuahua and part unknown, he has learned commands quickly and will do just about anything for a tasty treat. He loves to play soccer in the backyard as he defends and chases the ball back and fourth. When he’s not chasing a soccer ball twice his size, or watching cars, bicyclists and birds pass by; he gets a thrill from weaving as fast as he can under each piece of living room furniture during his high energy spurts.
